Milkshake the band Review

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
I was given the opportunity from Twitter Moms to review  Milkshake’s latest DVD -  Screen Play, and CD – PLAY!  Milkshake is the kid friendly rock n roll band.  They can be seen on Discovery Kids and PBS.  Most of their songs are inspired by different events in the band members lives.

For the song Happy Songs from their first CD this song was inspired by the birth of Lisa’s (the vocalist) daughter and Mikel’s (Acoustic Guitarist) son.

They are a colorful group of people, very happy and in tune with the what children are interested in.  Some of their  songs off the PLAY! album are about Bowling, Baseball and Superheros.  Lisa’s voice is very pleasant and enjoyable to listen to.  As a parent I actually enjoyed all of their songs as well.  Very catchy, I caught my self singing the songs hours after watching the DVD.  LOL!

Their videos are very colorful, which catches a child’s eye.  The band mates wear colorful clothes and certain objects in each song, whether it’s their shirts, flowers, other landscape etc. are bold and bright.

I would like to say that my son at 18 months is not interested in ANY TV.  Well except for 2 things, one being the action in Bad Boys II (LOL!) and Milkshake.  He sat and watched all of the DVD.  Now I have put on a variety of cartoons and he may look at it, but nothing has caught his interest like the videos and songs sung by Milkshake.

I am really just extremely pleased with the DVD and CD!

American Idol

Friday, January 30th, 2009

I am a little bothered by this show.  I usually watch it on and off through the seasons until it gets down to like the top 10 and then I watch consistently until the new American Idol is “crowned”.

However this season I have been watching every week, both days it’s on.  All of the auditions.  I recorded on my DVR last nights episode and I got around to watching it today.

I am a little disturbed that there were a number of people who were denied the “golden ticket” because they were a little rocky but a girl in a bikini makes it through because Simon loved her body.

Another guy made it through because they all thought he was funny.  A girl with a decent voice last night just made it through because they felt bad for her brother, he gave  a sad puppy dog face and they let her through.

I don’t think their judging is very fair and consistent at all.

Now, will I stop watching?  NO!

I will however, be very not very happy with some of the judges decisions.

For all those who partake in the weekly American Idol ritual…..

Happy viewing!

Check out some of my work!

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

So I have always loved scrapbooking.  12 yrs ago I made a book for Nicki.  I stopped over the years because, well, I just didn’t have much in my life I wanted to scrap about.  With the new additions to our family, Bubby and  Bel, I have taken up scrapbooking again.  In addition to scrapbooking for fun I decided to start my own business selling scrapbooks and accessories. I also launched my scrapping site, ScrappyMommy3. I haven’t really posted much on it because I have been focusing on this blog and making all my projects.

The first picture is of the scrapbook I made from scratch:

What do ya think so far?

So back in December just before Christmas, A.C Moore was having a wonderful sale on the Cricut machine. I just had to have one.

This machine is awesome. The next set of pictures I created using the Cricut.

This is the Happy Birthday card:

Next we have a Baby (girl) card:

I love sunflowers, so the next one is a Sunflower card:

Most of the cards I made so far are just blank inside, all but the Happy Birthday card.
The next picture is of one of my scrapbook pages. The flower embellishments I made with the Cricut. The blue paper is where you would place you pictures.

These are just some of the beginnings of my projects. I will be posting more, hopefully several times a week. I am not sure if I will post them both here and the ScrappyMommy3 website or just there but check back often. Sometime in the near future I will have some giveaways with the scrapping products I made.

Also I am planning on becoming a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator. I will let you all know when I get that going.

Feel free to leave me comments and let me know what you think.:-)

Florida home owners insurance

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

At this point in our financial slump I feel pretty lucky to not own a home.  Not only because of the horrible economy but now State Farm Insurance is no longer selling home owners insurance to to residents in Florida.

Apparently they had $5 billion in loss last year and they are unable to get decent prices.  In the Tampa Bay area alone there are about 120,000 policy holders.  Getting a decent price on insurance in Florida is just crazy anyway.

When Tony owned his home a couple years ago, it was a small 2 bedroom 1 bath home and he paid thousands in insurance premiums.  I want to say it was over $2k every 6 months.

This economy has obviosuly not hit rock bottom yet.  Circuit City is closing down some of the stores, Home Depot is closing a bunch of their Expo stores.  7000 people will be out of a job.

I have to be thankful that Tony still has a job, however, he received an email the other day that pretty  much let him know that his restaurant is having tough times too.  They slashed his bonus plan, crazy style.  Even if he hits all of his goals for the month, he will make about 1/3 of what he did during the months of 2008.  I am trying to remain positive that when we get out of this economic crisis, that they will change the bonus plan again.  They have changed it several times since he has come back to work for them, 1 1/2 yrs ago.

I am just hoping for some relief for the whole country.  Everyone seems to be affected somehow, everywhere.

Surprise!

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

As if having 7 babies at once wasn’t enough but SURPRISE you actually have 8 babies in there!  LOL!  A woman in Bellflower CA delivered not 7 babies that they originally thought but 8.  She went the whole pregnancy thinking she was going to be a mom of septuplets and on delivery day they found one more.

Really though, if you are already having 7 at one pop, what is one more.  :-)   The smallest weighing in at 1lb 8oz to the biggest at 3.4 lbs.  Thankfully all of them are doing really well, breathing on their own. Read the story here.

I would love to have multiples.  I know there are a lot more health risks with having more than one baby at one time.  I guess for me though, since I had 2 c-sections already, I am being told I should only have 1 more.  We wanted 5 total children, that would mean I should have 2 more but most doctors say they won’t deliver more than 3 c-sections.

Not to mention I think multiples are adorable, like the children on Jon and Kate plus 8.  I love that show.

Anyways, I hope those octuplets grow strong and healthy and can leave the hospital without too long of a stay.

A little bit about my family:
I am a SAHM of 4 wonderful children and I have the most amazing boyfriend! I am trying to get my online business up and running. Paper crafts and scrapbooking is what I love to do in my free time (when I get some, 4 kids keep me busy) and to try and turn my hobby into a way to make money so I can stay home with my kids that would be wonderful. If you are in to paper crafting and scrapbooking or know someone that is please check out my online store: Artfuldelight.com. Nicki, Tony, Isabel and Max are the joy in my life, I love being home with them but sometimes money can be tight. Hopefully I can have some success with this store.
