Florida home owners insurance
At this point in our financial slump I feel pretty lucky to not own a home. Not only because of the horrible economy but now State Farm Insurance is no longer selling home owners insurance to to residents in Florida.
Apparently they had $5 billion in loss last year and they are unable to get decent prices. In the Tampa Bay area alone there are about 120,000 policy holders. Getting a decent price on insurance in Florida is just crazy anyway.
When Tony owned his home a couple years ago, it was a small 2 bedroom 1 bath home and he paid thousands in insurance premiums. I want to say it was over $2k every 6 months.
This economy has obviosuly not hit rock bottom yet. Circuit City is closing down some of the stores, Home Depot is closing a bunch of their Expo stores. 7000 people will be out of a job.
I have to be thankful that Tony still has a job, however, he received an email the other day that pretty much let him know that his restaurant is having tough times too. They slashed his bonus plan, crazy style. Even if he hits all of his goals for the month, he will make about 1/3 of what he did during the months of 2008. I am trying to remain positive that when we get out of this economic crisis, that they will change the bonus plan again. They have changed it several times since he has come back to work for them, 1 1/2 yrs ago.
I am just hoping for some relief for the whole country. Everyone seems to be affected somehow, everywhere.
