Need a new machine

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

I posted back in December-ish about how my elliptical broke.  While we were living in the apartment, it was great because we had a community gym.  It wasn’t big and didn’t have a lot of equipment, but it served its purpose.

Well we moved in to our current house, never got a new one because we just didn’t have the room.  Our new place, which we will be in a week or so, has a basement.  It’s not finished but it is big enough to have some workout equipment and maybe a tv.  I think after we get settled in the house and I guess after I have the baby we will have to go shopping and compare ellipticals.  We only paid about $300 for the last one and it barely lasted 6 months.  We will have to buy a little bit better one if we want it to last longer.

Trying to get done

Moving day is approaching really fast.  Wednesday will be here before we know it.  My pregnancy is still keeping me from being able to give packing my full attention.  I pack about a box or two a day if I am lucky.  The movers will be here sometime on Wednesday.

We will be hitting the road, hopefully, as soon as they leave on Wednesday. We have a long drive ahead of us and will be taking our time so our kids don’t have a rough time.  Maybe we will stop at places a long the way.  We may be passing through Atlanta and I saw on Martha Stewart the other day that they have a really nice Aquarium there.  Maybe we will find some flea markets or something too.  Our new house has all hardwood floors so we will need to get some rugs.  We will spend at least one night in a hotel/motel.  We aren’t sure of when the movers will get to our house, the earliest they said was June 5.  So we will have 2 days to find stuff to do.

I am really excited because the place we found we will pay just a little less for rent a month.  We will have a yard with real grass.  We have that crappy crab grass here in Florida.

Anyways, off to put the kids to nap.  I think I need one myself.  :-)

Some new stuff

We got back from our weekend at 5:30am.  OMGoodness it was a LONG weekend.  Tony and I had to drive separate, he was driving the U-Haul towing his inoperable car and our 4-wheelers were in the truck.  I was in the Ford with the lil ones.  Well Tony rode with Lil Tony and the dog.  We started off at 6am on Friday morning.  It didn’t start off good, 5 minutes in to driving, the “check transmission” light came on.

Now a year ago it did the same thing and we ended up replacing the transmission.  So we were a little worried we were going to have to do the same.  We did feel comfortable, however, to still make the trip.  After all that the trip continued without any problems.  We made frequent stops since we had the lil ones and a pregnant one that needed to stop and stretch.  Our 14 hr trip turned in to a 20 hr trip.  Thursday night I couldn’t sleep so I had been up since 2:30am Friday morning so by 8pm Friday, I was done.  We had made it to North Carolina, I would say just before the border in to Virginia.

We decided to call it a night, we stopped at a Quality Inn, got some Chinese food and passed out.

We started out on Saturday on the road by 7am.  We only had about 4-5 more hours to drive.  Tony told me the last 2-3 hours Lil Tony just screamed.   The kid did not want to be in the car anymore.  When we got to Virginia we had a couple houses we wanted to look at, the kids did not want to get back in the car.  We ended up only looking at 1.  Sunday we needed to check out a few more and thankfully Tony’s dad said we could leave Lil Tony home with him.  We drove around for hours, saw several places but didn’t have a place we thought we could afford and call home.

We ended up staying til about noon on Monday so we could look at a couple more places.  Finally the last one we say we decided to could make work.

In case I hadn’t mentioned, we are moving to Virginia so Tony can take a new position.  Make the same amount of money and work 25+ hours a week less.  He will get benefits he didn’t get at his only company, like medical and dental….401k and life insurance.  I really think life insurance is important as we get older and have more kids.  What I will probably do when he starts at his new job and gets his benefits is compare life insurance.  Make sure we are getting the best deal through his work. Plus we will check out all the other benefits they have to offer, we need to start thinking about our future and maybe start a 401k plan.

So anyways, we left Monday at around noon, since we were all in the same car Tony ended up driving the whole time.  We only stopped for gas and pee breaks and one dinner break so it only took 16 hrs to get home.  We arrived home at 5:30am and were ready for bed.  The kids slept until about 10:30am so I got some more rest too, I slept on and off on the way home.

We have about 7 days to pack, today was a little bit of a relaxation day but we did manage to pack a couple boxes.  The rest of the week we will definitely crack down.

Kettlebell Review

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

With 3 kids it is definitely difficult to get to the gym to do any sort of workout.  Even when I was living in the apartment and we had to gym in the complex, I always had to wait until the kids went to bed to go down there.  Late at night I was never in the mood to really get in to my workout and it always felt repetitive.  Same cardio machines every time.

I was given the opportunity to review a Kettlebell from KettleWorX.  It is a 6 week training program, I have been using it for 2 weeks.  Now I will say about 1 1/2 weeks ago I came down with a really bad cold/flu so it was a little difficult to give it my all but I did work out as much as I could over the 2 weeks.

I really liked that it gave you the option to purchase different packages to accommodate your financial situation.  For example they have a starter package for $59.95 where you would not need the Kettlebell but it would give you a 6 week training within 4 DVD’s.  Or for the more advanced workouts, they have packages with more DVD’s and it would also include the Kettlebell.

The package I received to review was the KettleWorX Ultra 5.  It came with a 5lb Kettlebell, which was recommended for women, and 9 DVD’s.

I like that each workout incorporated the Kettlebell in with each movement.  Each movement worked a number of different muscle groups in order to get a total body workout.  After each workout I felt that my muscles had been stretched and trained properly.  When I was going to the gym I always think I over did it and my muscles would be extremely sore in the morning.  I contributed that to not stretching and working out properly.

The start of each work out included a low intensity warm up, to get all your muscles ready for the workout.  The fitness package I received came with several 10-minute workout videos.  Those worked really well on the days I felt the worst with my cold or had to tend to my sick children.  I felt they were a little more intense to get a great workout in such a short amount of time.  I was able to workout even though I didn’t have much time and continue to strengthen my muscles.

With the package it came with 9 DVD’s to focus on every part of my body.  From abs to arms and shoulders to butt and thighs.  That was also my problem going to the gym, I mostly did cardio machines that really only burned a lot of calories.  It didn’t tone my body as I lost the weight.

You can also just purchase the Kettlebell by itself.  For as low as $19.95 for the 5lb Kettlebell.

I have only been doing the workout program for 2 weeks and look forward to giving it my all in the next 4 weeks.  I expect to see wonderful results.  For me however, I do have a good deal of weight to lose so I am sure I will need to workout for more than 6 weeks to reach my goal but I feel these videos are going to be a great help in achieving my goal.  They will tone my body as I drop the fat.  Lose the fat not the muscle.

Memorial Day weekend!

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

We head out first thing in the morning to go back to Virginia.  I have so much to tell y’all about but things have been really rough around here.  I will hope to have more time to fill you in on all the details when we return.

I have really been neglecting my blog and that is affecting me in many ways, not as many readers  as well as a few other issues.  A quick overview as to why I haven’t blogged, on top of being pregnant and feeling completely ILL, when we returned from our trip last week from Virginia, Isabel and I both got really sick.  We have still not recovered.  Isabel ended up with an eye infection and I just have a really bad cough that causes me to choke and throw up.  Lil Tony got sick a couple days later and he has an ear infection.  Tony was only sick for one day and so far it seems Nicki may only have a stuffy nose.  Me and the lil ones got it the worst.

We are moving AGAIN!  I will go in to more details about that after the weekend.  So we are driving 14 hrs, one way, to Virginia first thing in the morning.  We will be checking out some rental houses and spending time with Tony’s dad.  We have to be back by Monday night because we have several things going on Tuesday morning.

Anyways, off to the bedroom to pack our bags and get some rest, plan on getting up at 4am.  Wish me luck on a 14hr car ride with 3 kids and a dog! AAAAHHHHHHHH!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

Happy Mother’s Day to all you lucky ladies.  Today is just another day for me.  Sat around in my pj’s all day.  Nicki got me a “mom” coffee mug and a singing card.  She made me a necklace with clay beads.  The beads she made.  She also cleaned the kitchen.  Not sure if she did it because it was Mother’s Day or just because she thought she should help out around the house.

I did do laundry and I will try and get some of our bags together for our trip. I really hope things go smooth on Tuesday.  Some big changes may take place on Wednesday.  I will update with good news (if there is any) on Thursday.

Hope all of you had a wonderful day with your mothers and children.

A little bit about my family:
I am a SAHM of 4 wonderful children and I have the most amazing boyfriend! I am trying to get my online business up and running. Paper crafts and scrapbooking is what I love to do in my free time (when I get some, 4 kids keep me busy) and to try and turn my hobby into a way to make money so I can stay home with my kids that would be wonderful. If you are in to paper crafting and scrapbooking or know someone that is please check out my online store: Artfuldelight.com. Nicki, Tony, Isabel and Max are the joy in my life, I love being home with them but sometimes money can be tight. Hopefully I can have some success with this store.
