Nutty neighbors and daycare

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

We have been living in our house for 5 days.  Nicki has made friends with all the kids on the block.  We are kind of a stand alone dead end street.  One block one way is a busy road and one block the other is a business parking lot and then the neighborhood begins.  A little hard to explain.

Anyways so Nicki goes outside and plays with the little girls down the street (they will be 8 on Sunday) and she comes in at one point and says my friends mom asked if you would be able to babysit for a couple weeks.  Now that school is out for the summer she is looking for daycare.  She said it would only be a month because they are moving.

I told Nicki I would think about it.  I have the 2 lil ones and I am pregnant with horrible morning sickness.  Not sure I want to add the stress of watching 2 more kids.

So then Nicki comes inside about 8:30pm and says her friends mom wants to go tanning and wants to know if I could watch her kids for an hour.  I said fine even though I wasn’t thrilled about it.

The mom comes down to my house about 8:45 and in a matter of 15-20 min tells me her life story.  All about why she is moving, how she has 4 kids with 3 different fathers, how she runs her own business.  Just all sorts of crap.  She doesn’t leave until 9:10 and then says will be gone for an hour.  Then says oh yeah I’ll send my daughter down with money tomorrow.  I don’t forsee getting any money.  WTF!  Do I have “open for daycare” sign on my front lawn.  Everyone on my street hears I am a stay at home mom and thinks I just want to watch their children.

My landlord told me my next door neighbor did that to his daughter that was living in the house previous.  She just assumed since she stayed home with her kid that she wanted to watch her kids too.  I guess it was all good until she started leaving her kids there for 8-10 hrs a day and for 2 kids only paying $75 a week.

I hope my neighbor doesn’t think she can do the same to me.  The only reason I may do it for the lady down the street is because it is only for a few weeks.

Wow!  What have I gotten myself in to?

Tony started his job yesterday and it totally sucked.  He has been home for 3 weeks and it has been great.  It was nice having him home not only for being able to spend time together but because I am about 3 1/2 months along and my morning sickness is in full force.  Over the last couple weeks it has been unbearable to change a poopy diaper.  Cooking food/the kitchen in general makes me nauseous.

I hope my morning sickness ends soon.  I think I would rather just feel way pregnant, all the discomforts that come along with it instead of having morning sickness.

Since Tony went back to work a week earlier than planned we had to rush and get the house in order.  Well I can’t really take much credit, Nicki and Tony did most of it.  My craft room and a few other random boxes in the hall still need to be put away.

I really am liking our house.  It is 3 levels.  The basement isn’t finished but that is what Tony is using for a “garage” since we don’t have one.  The basement walks out to the backyard to he will be able to work on his car.  The 3rd floor is the bedrooms and a full bathroom.  It is an older house built in the 1920′s but it is really cute.  The kitchen is a little smaller than we would like but that is ok.  Also the way the living room/dining room/kitchen is sectioned off it makes the living room a little small.

We also live close to shopping and restaurants.  I really am hoping to settle down for a bit.  We pay decently cheap for rent and the house is nice.  Not to mention since we had movers move for us we got a little spoiled.  Not sure we want to do the moving ourselves again.

Off to eat lunch and take a nap.  :-)

Do I really need to?

Tony and I have discussed whether or not I would need a job.  I definitely couldn’t work full time because it would cost too much to put the kids in daycare but maybe something part time.  With Tony only working 40 hours a week I might have a chance to work on his days off and after or before his shift.  I feel so lonely at home sometimes.  Just me and the kids.  It’s nice when Nicki  is home because we can talk but when it is just me and the lil ones, I get lonely.

The thought of getting a job sometimes upsets me because I love being here for their every move.  To be here when they wake up, to put them to nap and give them their bath and put them to bed.

I feel I need some socialization though.  Not like  sales jobs, I would absolutely suck at sales.  I used to work for collections and I sucked at that too.  You need to be persistent and I don’t think I can be that way to total strangers.  I would probably get tons of adult interaction but I don’t think I would enjoy my job.

I liked being a server.  I liked having money in my pocket when I left work and I made good money.  I guess I will give Tony some time to get settled in his job and see what kind of weekly schedule he may have, will it be consistent.  Then maybe I will look into getting some work outside the house.

Do any of you stay at home moms feel the same?  I feel I have lost my identity.  I don’t really have local friends (since we have moved a lot) and I am in my house with the kids all the time.  I sit around in sweat pants and a t-shirt all day and I desire adult conversations.  I feel extremely lucky to be able to stay home with my kids and I shouldn’t take that for granted.  I just feel lonely far too often these days.

Travels made simple

When we came up to Virginia a couple weeks ago to look at houses and to drive up our 4-wheelers and Tony’s car we used print-outs from mapquest.  It was a bit of a pain.  Since I didn’t really get Tony much for his birthday, I thought it would be a good idea to get him a GPS.

OMG I love it.  It has been so helpful.  We didn’t even have to look at exit signs on our way home.  In addition when we drove out here (to live) and we had to take our time, find numerous hotels, places to eat and something fun to do with the kids….it really did come in handy.

We named the GPS voice, Betty.  She can be annoying sometimes, repeating herself over and over again until you complete the turn or whatever but man, seriously it was really great.  She would ust shout out when we hit our exit or stop or destination.

Being in a new city having the GPS has really been great. It is so crazy all the new technology that we just can’t live without.  We have only had the GPS for about 2 weeks but getting around would be a whole lot more difficult without it.  :-)

Phew!

Wow what a week!  I am glad to finally be in our house.  Getting all unpacked and making it feel like home.  We ended up spending about double what we wanted over the 4 days.  Between food (for 5), hotel, gas and snacks we spent a lot.

Tony wasn’t supposed to start work until the 17th but they called and asked if he wanted to start this Wednesday and since we spent a little more than we wanted to we decided it would be a good idea to do so.

It will suck having him go back to work on Wednesday but financially it is the responsible thing.  Sometimes it”s good to just get back to “reality”.

Lil Tony by day 3 had just had enough in the car.  Each day of our trip we were only able to drive about 300 miles which took us all day to do. LOL!

Anyways I am going to do more unpacking, will update you more about our week later tonight! :-)

A little bit about my family:
I am a SAHM of 4 wonderful children and I have the most amazing boyfriend! I am trying to get my online business up and running. Paper crafts and scrapbooking is what I love to do in my free time (when I get some, 4 kids keep me busy) and to try and turn my hobby into a way to make money so I can stay home with my kids that would be wonderful. If you are in to paper crafting and scrapbooking or know someone that is please check out my online store: Artfuldelight.com. Nicki, Tony, Isabel and Max are the joy in my life, I love being home with them but sometimes money can be tight. Hopefully I can have some success with this store.
