Half way there

Monday, August 1st, 2011

Today ends another accomplished semester.  I took 3 classes this summer and I got A’s in all three.  I feel so proud of myself.  With four kids, trying to maintain an online craft business, my household chores, and do well in school is an amazing accomplishment.

In my Econ class I pretty much maintained a high B the whole semester then I ROCKED the last two tests.  I received a 101% on one test and a 104% on my final.  How cool is that.  Then in English I maintained a low A the whole semester but thought I was going to drop to a B because I took my final and I just didn’t study enough, I ended up having to leave a couple questions blank.  It sucked.  BUT, I did pretty good considering and I did well on my essay I had to write on a poem.  Wahoo!!  Really I am so excited.

Now I have three weeks off until fall semester and I am going to do nothing but craft and watch tv.  LOL!  This fall is going to be rough, taking five classes, so I need to get some relaxation time in.  :-)

I am halfway done, by this time next year I will have my Associates in Accounting and be packed and moving across the country to Arizona.  Wahooo!!!

I can see the end!

I have less than two weeks left of summer semester.  I am totally excited.  Partly because I don’t have to take anymore English or Economics class and partly because I am kicking butt this semester.  Or so far that is.  Last week I took a test in Econ and I was 110% certain I was going to fail.  I think I left some answers blank and the ones I did answer were pretty general.  I ended up getting a 93% on the test.  SERIOUSLY!!!!  Then I got some essays back in English and got A’s on both.  WHAT!!!  LOL!!  I need some sort of miraculous medal for doing so well.  LOL!   With four kids, a house to take care of and full time school and so far getting all A’s.  Now I don’t want to jinx it because I still have one more essay and the final in English AND two more tests in Econ so I could do really bad and drop to a B but that is still good considering.

After the summer I will have fall, spring, and summer semester and then I am done.  :-)   YIPPEEE and then we are off to Arizona!!!!  WAHOOO!!!

Almost done

The end of summer semester is right around the corner.  Tomorrow begins our 8th week of 10 weeks.  I am so excited.  I will have 3 weeks off and then start fall semester.  I will have fall, spring and summer semester and then I am DONE.   I won’t have to walk in to campus and see girls in scrubs and Marcus lab coats.  The college I go too seems to be focused on the nursing field.  That’s all good and dandy but I am ready to move on.

I think what will end up happening is I will take a semester or two off while I try and focus on getting a job and then take a class or two towards getting a bachelors in accounting or maybe work towards a CPA.  :-)   I just want to find work, I want to make money.  :-)

Almost done

Thursday, July 7th, 2011

There is only about 2 weeks left of the summer semester and I could not be more excited!!!  I won’t have to take another English class or Economics class.  Wahoooo!!  I have done surprisingly very well in both classes.  I am shooting for an A in all three summer classes but I think I might be OK with a B.  I am pretty certain I will get an A in my Computer Accounting class and right now I am getting an A in English and on the border of an A/B in Economics.

I took a test in Economics last week and I felt really certain I would not do well at all.  I attended the lectures for the chapters the test was going to cover but it wasn’t until Monday (the test was on Wednesday) that I started to actually read the chapters.  I felt lost.  I felt there was so much to learn and study for before Wednesday that there was no way I would retain the information.  But I studied and read Monday night, Tuesday, and went to school early on Wednesday to study.  I ended up getting a B on the test, an 89% to be exact and that is ALMOST an A.  :-)   So that made me really happy.  The same day I took my English mid-term and there was two parts.  The first part has been graded and I got a 95% of it.  Also made me super happy.  I just can’t wait until break in between summer and fall semesters.  I think fall semester is going to be tough.  I am taking 5 classes.  All night classes.  So hopefully I will do well.

Only three more semesters to go until I get my Associates in Accounting.  Only three more semesters until we can move.  I can’t wait!!

Summer classes!

Saturday, June 25th, 2011

I am half way through my summer semester.  I have mixed emotions.  Well mostly I am happy because after this semester I will never have another English or Economics class.  I am really hoping to just make it through.  Once this semester is over I only have 3 more semesters to go; Fall, Spring and Summer.  When we move and I am able to get a job in the Accounting field I do plan on continuing to go to school.  I am not really sure how I am going to be able to do that, maybe I will have to find some online degree programs.  I know there are some online Universities I am just not sure how well that degree will be accepted in the working world.

I have a friend that was looking in to online degree programs because she doesn’t have as much support from family to help take care of her kids but she talked to a friend and she doesn’t think many jobs accept online Universities.  I will have to do a more extensive search.

I am really determined to get a Bachelors in Accounting I am just not sure how Tony and I will both be working full time and both attempting to continue our education full time.  I might have to try and get the experience for a little bit while Tony finishes school and then go back for my Bachelors.  I guess we will just see next summer after we move.  :-)

Summer semester

Thursday, June 2nd, 2011

I really hope I can make it through the summer semester.  I have taken 3 classes.  One of the classes though it totally self paced and it is teaching me Quickbooks.  So far I haven’t had any problems and I have made it through 4 out of 10 chapters in just a couple days.  I plan to try and finish it early so I can focus on my other classes.  I am half way through my second week and essays and such are starting to be due in English.  I am getting nervous.  I had a REALLY bad experience with my first English class last fall.  My prof gave little to no feedback on anything.  She would always mark me off for grammar but never give any advice.  She would just tell me to refer back to the readings in the book.  Oh I was so upset.  I managed to get an A in the class but it was by only a few points, and I think I worked pretty hard for it.

I just keep moving right along each week making sure that I completely understand the work before moving forward.  I am also taking Microeconomics and last semester when I took Macro I had to get a tutor.  Now granted I did take that class online and I just struggled but I definitely needed help.  Thankfully my tutor ROCKED and I was also able to get an A.

I will just keep chanting “I think I can, I think I can”.  Maybe that will help.  LOL!!

Naps, are they really overrated?

Monday, May 30th, 2011

Back in August of last year when Tony and I started school we decided to not let Isabel and Tony take naps; that way they will go to bed at 6 or 7.  With them going to bed so early that would give Tony and I time to do our homework and get to bed at a decent time ourselves.  This worked ok, they would sleep until about 6:30am and then go to bed at 6pm.  For the winter this worked out great.  Now with summer upon us and it staying lighter later it threw our whole schedule off.  We don’t end up eating until later in the evening so the kids don’t get to bed until 7 or 8 but then they still wake at 6am.  WOW, that makes for a LONG day.  By 4pm they are cranky.

The other problem is that since I do most of my homework at night and I am usually losing steam by then, I usually need a “pick me up”.  Just a short 20 min cat nap.  I feel so energized and I can usually get through my homework at night.  I am just beginning to wonder if they need to take naps though because from 4pm-6pm they are just unhappy, and then I am unhappy.  What to do?  I worry that with a nap then they won’t go to bed until really late and Tony and I won’t have quiet uninterrupted time to do homework.

A little bit about my family:
I am a SAHM of 4 wonderful children and I have the most amazing boyfriend! I am trying to get my online business up and running. Paper crafts and scrapbooking is what I love to do in my free time (when I get some, 4 kids keep me busy) and to try and turn my hobby into a way to make money so I can stay home with my kids that would be wonderful. If you are in to paper crafting and scrapbooking or know someone that is please check out my online store: Artfuldelight.com. Nicki, Tony, Isabel and Max are the joy in my life, I love being home with them but sometimes money can be tight. Hopefully I can have some success with this store.
